Deals of The season: $15 off your first trip
Kenya and Tanzania offer some of the world’s finest safari accommodation — from authentic canvas tented camps that put you inches from the wild, to ultra-luxury lodges where the service rivals any five-star hotel in the world. We match every guest to the right property for their budget, comfort level, and travel style.
We have personally inspected every property we recommend. If a camp no longer meets our standards, it leaves our portfolio. Here is our honest guide to Kenya safari accommodation at every level.
Full-board tented camps with proper beds (not sleeping bags), en-suite bathrooms with flush toilets and hot-water bucket showers, communal dining tents, and campfire evenings. The authentic bush experience at its best — canvas walls mean you hear every sound of the wild through the night. Some guests prefer these to luxury lodges precisely for that reason.
Permanent lodge rooms or spacious tented chalets with private verandas overlooking waterhole or savanna views, 24-hour electricity and wifi, swimming pool, and restaurant-style dining with a full à la carte menu at dinner. The sweet spot for most safari travellers — excellent comfort without ultra-luxury prices. Wildlife viewing from your veranda is common.
Kenya's finest — private plunge pools, personal butler service, helicopter landing pads, designer interiors by world-renowned architects, and camp staff-to-guest ratios that can exceed 4:1. Champagne on arrival at the airstrip. Silver service dinners by candlelight. The Mara's most celebrated camps attract guests from all over the world who have experienced the very best hotels globally — and rate these camps equally.
Every camp and lodge we include in our packages has been personally visited by our reservations team. We assess it on five criteria: the quality of food, the comfort of the accommodation, the professionalism and warmth of the staff, the wildlife access from the property, and the overall value for money at its price point. If a property scores poorly on any single criterion, it leaves our recommended list until it improves.
We give honest advice. If you tell us your budget and we think a camp at a lower price point will deliver a better actual experience than the one you've asked for, we will tell you — because our relationship is with you, not with any lodge operator's commission structure.
Tell us your wedding date, destination interests, and budget. We’ll design the most extraordinary honeymoon you can imagine — and make every detail perfect.
